I've already written about the many solutions for anal sex that are offered today by the adult industry: for example, I did it in the review for the Pjur Analyse Me! Anal Comfort Serum. But, there's another step I haven't taken into consideration yet: cleaning!
Who has never worried about the hygiene of that body part before anal intercourse? And no, I'm not infringing my body-positivity ideals by saying this: we all should know that a slight bodily smell is perfectly natural and acceptable, but what about all the bacteria that, during sex, could be carried from the anus to the vagina, potentially causing infections?
That's why hygiene is not an option: you should carefully clean sex toys before switching from anal use to vaginal play, and never wipe from the back towards the front when you go to the bathroom.
The adult industry has offered for a long time anal showers as tools for better hygiene: they double as vaginal douches that I find useful, for example, when on my period.
But I can notice a tendency in the market of anal douches lately: looks that companies are aiming to make them look more like instruments of pleasure, with nozzles shaped like dildos and velvety surfaces very pleasant to the touch. An example of this trend is the Black Velvets Douche from You2Toys.
After all, I'm all for building up the arousal while preparing for sex: so, why not getting clean in a dirty way?
Packaging and measurements
The packaging of the Black Velvets Douche is cleverly unisex, as anal douches may appeal to every gender.
Despite the tendency of the brand You2Toys to include photos of nude, horny models on the boxes of the products, this one is actually very discreet.
The box shows detailed images of the anal/vaginal shower as well as its measurements and capacity: very useful for a customer that is trying to choose between many similar products at an adult shop.
I learn from what's written on the packaging that this is the 'small' size of the product: with a capacity of 200 ml and a maximum diameter of 3 cm, this looks perfect for my needs of hygiene and portability during travels. The nozzle, rippled like a high-end dildo, is 14 cm long.
There's also a 'Big' version, even prettier, whose longer nozzle looks like anal beads. Perhaps I'll try it next time: right now, it's better for me to test a 'beginner-friendly' sex toy, with a less intimidating size.
Inside the external cardboard box, the shower is wrapped in a tiny Ziploc-like plastic bag, accompanied by an informative leaflet.
The soft touch material
On the packaging is written that the douche is made from soft-touch silicone: as soon as I open the plastic bag, getting the product in my hands, I understand what this means. The material is extremely smooth and velvety to the touch: it's certainly high grade silicone.
The quality of the material surprises me, given that the price of this product isn't high: it's sold for 24.95€ at Orion's official shop.
This is another proof of my long tested theory that a sex toy doesn't need to be expensive to offer great quality! The pleasant feeling of this velvety douche on my skin makes me very curious to try other products from the Black Velvets range: there are cock rings, butt plugs, love balls and mini vibes, all made from the same black soft-touch silicone!
Rub-a-dub-dub...
The softness and smoothness of the material are not only pleasant on the skin, but they also make for easier penetration: this douche only needs a few drops of water-based lube to glide perfectly!
Since the toy is made from silicone, I would not recommend silicone-based lubes: I used a water-based one specific for anal use.
Yes, you can notice that I'm stating 'sex toy' instead of 'anal/vaginal douche': that's because this product has seduced me not only because of its portable size and its efficiency to meet my hygiene needs, but also for the fun times it brought me playing in the shower with my partner!
The water runs out quite slowly out of the small hole on the top of the nozzle: this allows to clean yourself (and to play sexy watersports in the shower) without feeling uncomfortable.
We found the ripples and bulges of the dildo-nozzle very pleasurable for both anal and vaginal use: when we ran out of the 200 ml of water that the bulb can contain and, in the heat of the moment, there was no time to fill it back, we truly enjoyed using it without water as well!
We found that our usual water-based anal lubricant goes away very quickly while playing in the shower. Luckily, we recently had the opportunity to test the EROS Silicone Toy Glide, a waterproof product that happens to be compatible with all sex toys, including the ones made from silicone: it's just perfect to play with the Black Velvets Intimate Shower!
In conclusion
I don't consider this toy just a tool for cleaning and getting ready for sex: instead, it's now one of my favourite sexy shower games with my partner. With the Black Velvets Douche, I guarantee you'll save water by showering together more!
The velvety smoothness of the body-safe silicone allows for easy penetration with only a small dab of lubricant, and it feels so good to the touch that it left me wanting to try more products from the same range.
Only, if you're planning to play with it in the shower as we did, you need to be aware that the only lubes that do not get washed off by water are the silicone-based ones: I would suggest to use one that's compatible with silicone sex toys, like the EROS Silicone Toy Glide.
The price range of all toys from Black Velvets is not too expensive, and the douche I tested, as previously stated, costs 24.95€ at Orion.de. You can find it also at most specialist stores.
I received the Black Velvets Anal Douche free of charge from Orion in exchange for my honest review. Unaffiliated post.
